What is Pilates?
Pilates is a unique system of exercises that strengthens the deep core muscles and conditions the whole body. There are 6 principles of Pilates: Control, Concentration, Centering, Breath, Precision, and Flow.  Pilates can be performed on either spring-resistant based apparatuses, or done on a mat with solely bodyweight exercises. All Emily RS Pilates classes are mat classes and can be done with from anywhere, anytime!

How is Pilates different from other types of exercise?
Unlike most forms of conventional exercise, Pilates is unique in that it is low impact, yet high intensity. This means that you can still get an efficient workout without negatively impacting your joints in relation to gravity. Pilates is also unique because it follows a special order of exercises; think of it as following a recipe to make the perfect dish. Being able to execute the specificities of the Pilates exercises requires total concentration and control of the mind and body. Pilates is also one of the only exercise methods that incorporates functional strength with active stretch; leaving you feeling not only worked out, but lengthened and invigorated.
